How Vivah Muhurat is Calculated
A Vivah Muhurat is selected by evaluating five Panchang elements and several planetary conditions simultaneously. The dates on this page follow the traditional Vedic Panchang standard — the same system used by pandits and Jyotish astrologers across India.
The lunar day must be auspicious — Dwitiya, Tritiya, Panchami, Saptami, Dashami, Ekadashi, Trayodashi are favoured. Ashtami, Chaturdashi, Amavasya are avoided.
Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati are auspicious for marriage.
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday are considered auspicious. Tuesday and Saturday are excluded.
The ascendant at the time of ceremony should be a fixed sign (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) or a dual sign. Avoid the 8th house from natal Moon.
Neither Jupiter (Guru) nor Venus (Shukra) should be combust or retrograde — these two planets govern wisdom and love in marriage. Venus combustion and Guru Tara Asta (Jupiter not visible after conjunction with the Sun) fully exclude a date.
Marriage is avoided while the Sun transits Sagittarius or Pisces (Khar Maas) or Kanya/Virgo (a prohibited solar month) — periods traditionally unsuitable for auspicious ceremonies.
